Layers of Storybuilding

Setting in the Desert Large Builds
Once the terrain is mostly created, the first layer of paths and larger build structures are modeled in Blender and set down.  Of course every building should have a purpose.  There is no need to add too overdo.  With 16 regions to fill it is tempting, but at least 1/2 of the land mass should be left to travel.  To fill it with large buildings is to confuse the issue and plot.  Small buildings can always be set down during the revision.

First Building for Brantley

Ordinary World Entry Way
One of the issues I started to face with building on Brantley is that it started to look like a theme park, instead of the brooding mystery I wanted to story tell.  In this last revision (absolutely the last), I am working very slowly to add building and elements that only depict the story.  Fitting into the story is no longer enough for me.
Blender Modeling with Cycles
Since the story takes place in Southwestern, New Mexico, I wanted the "ordinary world" entry to define the environment.  The adobe house, one of my favorite home designs for it color and simplicity is the just right building for this space.

Satisfactory Windlight

After a week of changing out terrain swatches, and living with the theme, I settled on a London Fog adapted windlight.  I added a little blue to the sky.  I may need to tweak throughout the building, but the grays and mist a great background for most mysterious builds.  At least for a start.

Entryway Location
Note: These grays will only work for me, because I plan to use ambient lighting features (shadows and moons).

Brantley Dug Up and Done Over

Back to the Flood
I said I wouldn't do it again, dig this storybuild up and revise it yet again, but I've learned so much over the last few months about what I can and can't do in Open Sim, I wanted to give this story another chance.  So over the next few months, I will be posting my revised process for building a story world environment here.  Thanks for your continued patience.

1st Annual Rare Find Mountain Waterway Race (of the modern era) Winners!

An entire story will be published soon about the Grand Opening and Launch @ of Mystery @ Brantley No. 3 Shaft, but the news about who won the waterway race cannot wait.  The winners shown here dancing with the Maintainers were Sunbeam Magic, Grand Champion; Graham Mills, 2nd Place, Serene Jewell 3rd Place, Ghaelen D'Lareh, Dot Matrix, finishers.  If there were any other finishers or participants who felt like they finished but did not get a commemorative paddle, please let me know.

Sunbeam, Graham and Serene all were awarded double seater kayaks in addition to the paddles.  This will give them the opportunity to take out friends and teach them how to row these wonderful boats from Ocean Engineering.

Since the build is a time travel explorer age, the date there will always be 7.4.2015.  So. if you feel like racing against the clock you are still welcome to go out there, pick up a gift box w/HUD (hypergrid ready) and follow the course.  Native American music will accompany throughout your trip and up over the falls.  The falls reach a height of 125 M, and there are additional boats set out along the way, in case you get stuck or fall out of your boat.  Your race sweater is also a flotation device, so you won't drown in the rapid water or random currents.

Brantley No. 3 Shaft continues to be built.  In addition to the waterway there is a horseback and hiking trail, a flight center and coming soon, an amphibious journey.  In the middle of it all there is a mysterious and sometimes dystopian story about the collapse of civilization and its attempted restoration, a restoration that never happened and likely never will.   RL  or Immersive.

Brantley No. 3 Shaft Launch Kit

Be sure to pick up your launch kit on the way in.  The best place to find them is aboard the sats in the sky north, east, south and west.  Less congestion.  If you happen to enter in the wrong place, go to the boat launch area to pick up your kit.  There is a teleportal HUD, gifts and important information in the Kit about what to do next.  16 regions full of story objects can be a lot to manage.  The HUD includes maps.

Cavern Gallery Under the Lake

Storybuild written  by Ruby O'Degee
During the 2nd D'ni Restoration effort (3rd if you include Until Uru's beloved fits and starts restoration), Ruby O'Degee first resigned from the The Cavern Today (TCT) news podcast, a podcast she originally thought to be story fodder only, and then she was fired from the podcast all over again.  She continued to work on Cavern Communications Network (CCN) documentaries, but she lost her office in the city and worked in the CCN hood during the remainder for the 2nd restoration.

Sometimes she found peace to write her Madge and Mr. Tyion scripts in a little known cavern gallery under the reddish orange lake that Ruby grew to love.  Finding a way to get to the gallery eluded Ruby until one day she noticed a door underneath the stairs and walked through.  Likely she was in the applicable state of mind to find the tunnel, because a very few explorers knew a tunnel was there behind the door.

Age/World courtesy of Cyan Worlds Uru Story
For years the cavern gallery was hers alone.  Although it was barren and often dusty, Ruby wrote every day with a lap top, while sitting on her backpack.  She often fell asleep while writing, and she dreamed that one day she would write in a restored gallery on her own.

Unfortunately, that day came, but not as Ruby imagined.  In the years between the spring of 2006 and 2014 much changed.  Matt R. Dutton and Uwigor Longears bored into the tunnel through a passage they forced Ruby to dig at Brantley No. 3 Shaft, an they set up shop.  While Uwigor experimented with algae pellets and blended vast amounts of tea, Dr. Dutton continued to  prove his theories about the unique DNA of the D'ni.  He was interested in whether it could be replicated and mixed with DNA of casual Uru explorers.  With his charm he might convince these newly shape shifted explorers into building dark worlds for him.  Dr. Dutton knew fully well Ruby would only write worlds she imagined until her debts to the International Historical Consortium were paid.  The Down Under Tea Company needed a back up process.
